Just as Americans a decade ago began to discover how to eat healthier grains, produce, meat, and chicken through the Farm to Table movement, today consumers are learning how to do the same with seafood through an organization called Dock to Dish (www.docktodish.com).
The 2015 Travel & Adventure Show opening this weekend (March 21-22, 2015) at the Philadelphia Convention Center is putting the spotlight on this new nationwide movement when Dock to Dish Key West co-founder Paul Menta takes the Taste of Travel stage at 3:00PM on Saturday to discuss how Americans can enjoy an abundance of great tasting, healthy, totally fresh seafood by rediscovering the meaning of catch of the day. “Dock to Dish is the antidote to the anonymous, and often unregulated seafood that is flooding our restaurant menus, warehouse clubs, and supermarkets from Asia and South America,” Menta said today. “As much as 86% of the seafood America currently eats is imported. Knowing your fishermen is the secret to better quality, better health and a better local economy.”
According to Menta, Dock to Dish is the start of the next chapter in the sustainable seafood revolution, one that reconnects fisherman with consumers in a ‘three hands fish’ relationship— the hands of the fisherman connecting with the hands of the reseller connecting with the hands of the consumer.
During his Saturday afternoon presentation, Paul Menta will prepare some absolutely delicious dishes featuring local Key West Stone Crabs along with other seafood specialties.
Born with that Philadelphia attitude and now marinating in the Florida Keys for 25 years, Paul Menta is a food curious creative chef who will go in anyone’s kitchen to learn a family dish. He draws from his experiences traveling abroad as a Chef when theming his restaurants. When he’s not writing columns or appearing on camera, Menta is on the water in Key West. Outside of the kitchen, Menta works as a professional Kite Boarder and rum distiller at Key West’s first legal rum distillery. He feels truly blessed to have his passions be his profession. Menta’s extreme nature brings excitement to every project and he will inspire readers with his new book series, NATIVE FUEL.
